The Book “Snell, R. S.: Clinical Anatomy by Systems” is probably the single English written Anatomy textbook which is organized by systems and not by regions. Because the Course of anatomy in our faculty is also taught by systems, it is probably advantageous to use this book. On the other side, the other anatomical textbooks for students (Moore, K. L.: Clinically Oriented Anatomy; Drake, R. et al. : Gray's Anatomy for Students; Snell, R. S.: Clinical Anatomy , etc.) are of similar quality, so you can use any of them.
Except one of these textbooks, it is good to use also the “Platzer, W.,Kahle, W., Leonhardt, H., Frotscher, M.: Color Atlas and Textbook of Human Anatomy, Vol. I. - III. : Thieme“. Our experience shows that these books are very beneficial for students as a supplement to the general textbook.
For learning of neuroanatomy, you can use for example the “Snell, R. S.: Clinical Neuroanatomy”, or any of similar books.
Both atlases (Netter, F.H.: Atlas of Human Anatomy ; Sobotta Atlas of Human Anatomy) of human anatomy are of high quality. The “Sobotta” is slightly more extensive, but also more expensive.
For those of you, who want to find all details about anatomy, we can recommend the “Standring S.: Gray's Anatomy”, or “Benninghoff, Drenckhahn: Anatomie : Urban und Fischer, 2004 (in german)”.
