The Anatomy, Histology and Embryology Subject for the MD Master's General Medicine program is composed of 10 credits first semester (Anatomy, Histology and Embryology I) and 12 credits second semester (Anatomy, Histology and Embryology II) plus a final exam (C/C+E) according to the European Credit Transfer System. To conclude the subject it is necessary to obtain the credits of both semesters to be allowed to apply for the final exam; and thereafter the fulfillment of the subject is based on passing the final exam.
Conditions for Obtaining the Credits
- Full attendance of practical and dissection lessons: 4 allowed practical absences per semester ONLY. In cases of urgent excuse: 1 dissection absence or 5-8 practical absences to be solved by the head of the subject before the end of the semester. (Schedule)
- Passing all tests: Each single test must be passed. In case of failing any test, 2 additional attempts of retakes will be given right after the end of the semester. The maximum allowed attempts for each test are 3, and the maximum available terms for each test are 4. (Test organizations and attempts information)
- Passing the dissection oral examination: The practical dissection examination at the end of the dissection course must be passed. In case of failing, the same 3 attempts rule is applied. (Dissection Exam Information)
*Whom Repeating one subject Anatomy (DA0101337) or Histology and embryology (DA0101438) from the academic year of 2020/2021 will need to only fulfill the corresponding subject duties of practicals and tests (as last year) with 2 allowed practical absences per semester ONLY (In cases of urgent excuse: 1 dissection absence or 3-4 practical absences to be solved by the head of the department).
Winter semester credits
Winter semester credit (subject AHE 1) will be signed to all who have completed 80% attendance and participated in at least one "credit" test.
Students who have already exhausted all possibilities to fulfil oral examinations and written tests for the winter semester will receive a winter credit, but will not receive a summer credit and must therefore repeat the (subject AHE 2) in the following academic year. Also students who fail the oral examinations and written tests for the winter semester at the beginning of the summer exam period (4th term) will receive a winter credit, but must repeat the subject AHE 2 in the following academic year.
As part of repeating the subject AHE 2, it is necessary to accomplish all unfulfilled duties for the subject AHE 1 (winter semester) from the previous year, i.e. all pending oral examinations and written tests.
Summer semester credits
Summer semester credit (subject AHE 2) will be signed to all who have completed 80% attendance and fulfilled all the tests of the summer semester (also those winter semester pending duties in case of repeating).
Receiving the Credits
Credits are granted upon successfully fulfilling the above stated conditions. The assistant professor of your group will upload the credits if obtained in the SIS by the end of the semester as “Z” / "C" standing for “credited”. Unsuccessful students need to fulfil un-passed tests during the examination (after-semester retakes) period. Failure to pass the credits within the given attempts and dates will be posted in the SIS as “K” standing for “not-credited”.
What is the status if a student fails to obtain the winter semester credits?
If a student does not receive the winter semester credits after the winter examination period because he/she has not passed all the tests, he/she has the opportunity to continue into the summer semester and then retake the winter semester tests in the summer examination period - only one (fourth) term (as long as he/she has not already consumed all three attempts). The number of dates for retakes of the winter semester tests in the summer semester is very limited. If a student, due to whatever reasons, does not attempt a test, during the semester or at any of the retakes, he/she does not have the right to ask for a new term. If a student does not pass a test on the third attempt, he/she cannot receive the credits.
If a student does not receive winter semester credits (subject AHE 1 – 10 credits) at all, he/she cannot receive summer semester credits (subject AHE 2 – 12 credits) as both semester credits are required for the final exam which is an integral part of the subject AHE 2. He/she must therefore repeat both AHE subjects in the following academic year if he/she receives at least 44 out of 60 credits in order to advance into the second year. Otherwise his/her studies will be terminated.
What is the status if a student fails to obtain the summer semester credits by the end of the academic year?
If a student does not receive the summer semester credits (subject AHE 2) by the end of the academic year, he/she cannot attempt the final exam and will have to repeat the entire subject (AHE 2) in the following academic year if he/she receives at least 44 out of 60 credits in order to advance into the second year. The student will have to attend the classes, pass all the required tests and then the final exam.
What is the status if a student fails to obtain either the winter or the summer credit in AHE subject by the the end of the academic year?
If a student has not obtained the first, second or both credits, he / she cannot be admitted to the exam. In that case, the student has not fulfilled the completion of the AHE subject.
If a student has not passed the credit for the winter semester (subject AHE 1), he / she cannot complete the summer semester, because the summer semester (subject AHE 2) is closed by an exam, which is conditional for obtaining credits for both semesters and has to be completed in order to advance to the second year of his / her studies.
If the student does not pass the credit for the summer semester or does not pass the exam (subject AHE 2), he / she must repeat only this summer semester including the exam (course AHE 2) when studying the second year.
What is the status if a student fails to pass the final exam by the end of the academic year?
If a student does not pass the final exam (subject AHE 2) by the end of the academic year, he/she will have to repeat the entire subject (AHE 2) in the following academic year if he/she obtains the minimum required 44 out of 60 credits to pass into the second year. The student will have to attend classes, pass all required tests and then the final exam.
Can a student continue their studies if they do not receive credits from anatomy or AHE after repeating the subject in the second year?
No. If a student does not pass anatomy or AHE by the end of the second year he/she cannot continue their studies.
Recognition of Credits
According to the Dean's provision No. 7/2014, recognition of credits obtained from other medical faculties is entirely the responsibility of the head of the respective subject.
Re-enrolled students are required to repeat the entire course of the subject. ISP-enrolled students must contact the head of the department prior to the beginning of the academic year to arrange their ISP-duties in anatomy.
