Success at the 2022 ISCAA International Anatomy Conference

The 13th International Conference of Clinical and Applied Anatomy - ISCAA (International Symposium Clinical and Applied Anatomy) was held between September 15 - 17 in the Portuguese city of Vilamoura. There, members of the Department of Anatomy, namely its head prof. David KachlíkMUDr. Azzat Al-Redouan, M.D. Radovan Hudák and 4th year English parallel student Carl Olson, presented their scientific findings.

David Kachlík has been vastly active in clinical and applied anatomy for a long time. He focuses on the research of clinically significant variations that help doctors of numerous specialties to better respond to "non-standard" anatomy. In addition, he is intensively devoted to anatomical terminology, and at the conference, he opened a rich discussion among anatomists through his lecture about the importance of a uniform terminology of variable anatomical structures.

He also presented the preparation work of our 2nd year student Anhelina Khadanovich on the subject of the variability of connections between the superficial skin nerves of the forearm and the back of the hand.

Azzat Al-Redouan presented a lecture on clinically significant variations of the incisura scapulae (more about the successful publication in a renowned orthopedic journal in the article here). Radovan Hudák presented the partial results of an upcoming study devoted to the morphological pattern of the acromion curvature in correlation with the selection of the correct fixation plate. It was this lecture that won the award for the best short lecture of the conference. Radovan Hudák works not only at the Department of Anatomy of the Second Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, but also at the Department of Pediatric and Adult Orthopedics and Traumatology of the Second Faculty of Medicine and Motol University Hospital, and together with Azzat Al-Redouan, they focus on clinically important structures of the scapula and shoulder in their post-graduate work.

Carl Olson, in addition to the fact that he is now entering the 4th year of medicine in the English parallel, is already a significant young scientist at the Department of Anatomy and the Department of Physiology. But he is also the president of the Association of International Medical Students (AIMS). At the conference, he presented the classification of the processus coracoideus scapulae according to the measurement of its angles using software, but he also participated in the works of the aforementioned colleagues. You can find attachments from the conference, including the exact wording of the lectures and visuals visuals, in the gallery below.

Apart from the successful presentations, the main authors of Memorix anatomy managed to negotiate cooperation on further translations of this successful book. In addition to the current 7 language variants (CZ, SK, EN, ES, IT, PL, HU), work on the Portuguese, German, Greek and Albanian translation will begin soon.

The next ISCAA conference will take place on 14.–17. 9. 2023 in Prague, while one of the main organizers will be David Kachlík. If you are interested in scientific cooperation or in presenting your results at this conference, do not hesitate to contact him, or follow the news on the website of the Department of Anatomy, Second Faculty of Medicine, Charles University.
